WTD - Employment Appeals Tribunal Judgment 06.03.09 WTD - Unite T&G section Offshore Branch statement 23.3.09 --------------------------------------------- General Information The following update on the COTA 2010/11 wage negotiations has been e-mailed to Branch Shop Stewards and Members who have provided a current e-mail addresses.
23rd July 2010 To All Unite the Union and RMT Offshore Caterers (COTA grades A to E) Dear Brothers and Sisters COTA WAGE NEGOTIATIONS 2010/11 updateWe the fulltime officials write to inform you that we recently met with a representative of COTA to inform them that our membership had voted 71% to reject and 29% to accept the offer. Therefore the offer had been rejected. COTA are now reviewing their position and if they are prepared to enter into further meaningful discussions, then we will recall our Joint Shop Stewards. Thereafter, the Shop Stewards Negotiating Team would formally meet with COTA to discuss any further proposals. If however COTA are not prepared to enter into further negotiations we will organize our membership for a ballot on industrial action. We stress at this point COTA have not informed us of how they wish to proceed and as soon as they do we will keep you the membership fully informed at the earliest opportunity. Please distribute this communication as widely as possible to your catering colleagues.
Mr John Taylor Mr Jake Molloy Regional Industrial Organiser Regional Organiser Unite the Union ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following information has been e-mailed to Branch Shop Stewards and Members who have provided a current e-mail address and has been posted to all Branch members. Please use the links below to access the documentation referred to.
Unite the Union 42-44 King Street Aberdeen AB24 5TJ Tel 0845 6048312 (new number) Fax 01224 627469 20th July 2010 To All Unite Offshore Catering Branch Members. Dear Member, General Information Please find enclosed for your information: Ø The result for the phone ballot (4th-9th July) for the COTA 2010/11 wage offer. Ø Volcanic ash delay update letter. o Your URGENT attention is required and we advise you should read this letter carefully, as any failure to follow the advice given may leave you unable to claim outstanding wages. Ø Offshore Branch Annual Golf Outing Invitation. Ø Notification of two extra ordinary Branch meeting dates to discuss nominations for our General Secretary’s position. These dates are in addition to those already arranged for Thursday the 9th September, Friday the 24th September and Friday the 1st October which will commence at 10am sharp at the Unite office, 42-44 King Street, Aberdeen. All members of the Offshore Branch are welcome to attend and any items to be placed on the agenda for discussion should forward to this office ASAP. Ø Shop Stewards credential form 2010/11 o This should be completed and returned by any Offshore Branch Shop Steward who has not yet done so. o It can also be used to confirm the election of any new Shop Steward. We would urge every unit to have at least one Shop Steward and ideally a Shop Steward on every shift. This not only helps keep the membership onboard your unit informed of developments it gives you a focal point to ensure that we know of any issues which you have concerns about. Once elected the new Shop Steward will be given the necessary training to ensure he / she is fully qualified to deal with a range of industrial issues. COTA Wage Negotiations 2010/11 update Having notified COTA that our membership have overwhelmingly rejected the recent pay offer we are now awaiting a response from COTA. Only once we have received a response from COTA can we then be clear on the options open to our Offshore Members. Rest assured as soon as COTA have confirmed their position we will inform you. Many members have contacted the Aberdeen office enquiring what the procedure is if we go on strike. To avoid any confusion on the matter, should there be a ballot for industrial action a clear guide on the process and procedures will be sent to every Unite Offshore Catering Branch Member, but we are not at that stage yet. Organising Your Work Place. Over the last few months, we have explained the importance of getting all workplaces properly organised. This can not be overstated - especially given the possibility of industrial action offshore. To assist in this process we recently sent out a questionnaire to identify where each member works, their job title and e-mail address etc. Some members have returned this to the office, however there are a large number of members who have not yet done so. For that reason we have once again attached the questionnaire at the bottom of this letter. For all the latest information affecting Offshore Members please keep checking the news page on Offshore Branch website www.tgwuoffshore.org.uk.
